COGZ Will Not Start

Problem:

User is experiencing an issue where the COGZ Maintenance Software does not display when first started.

Resolution:

There are a variety of reasons why COGZ Maintenance Software might not start properly.  Most of these are not under the control of COGZ.  Please make sure you are using COGZ Version 4.70202 or higher.  Listed below are some information and recommendations for resolving the issue.

  • Certain applications may cause programs, including COGZ, to not run normally.  Some programs and settings with known issues are listed below:
    • Nero burning software, backup scheduler
    • More than one copy of MS Outlook running in Windows Task Manager
    • MS Outlook Iron Port Add-in
    • Windows 64 bit operating system with COGZ Versions lower than 5.0
    • Anti-virus or anti-spyware programs running on your network.
      • Have the security options been set to allow programs in the COGZ folder to run without challenges?
      • Microsoft has identified several issues where anti-virus or other utility programs, with outdated drivers, such as 2003 CA etrust antivirus, inhibit proper operation of your software.  These can cause problems that keep COGZ from running.
    • Not having a default printer specified for the computer.  Check the default printer setup on the client machine to see if it is a network printer.  We would recommend making the default printer a local printer to see if it resolves your issue.  If Epson C82 is the default printer, try a different printer.
  • Troubleshooting steps and hints:
    • Windows Task Manager: Is COGZ Maintenance Software is already running in the Task Manager? Check to see if COGZ Maintenance Management System is shown in the Applications Tab and/or cogzw.exe is shown in the Processes Tab list.  If found, shut down your computer and restart.
    • In order to isolate the problem we suggest that you reboot your computer and test if COGZ starts normally.  If it starts then you know the problem is another program that you start manually.  You will need to review all programs that are running and or printing to see which might be causing the problem.  If it still does not start normally you will need to isolate the problem by preventing programs that start automatically at start up to determine the problem.
    • Does COGZ CMMS Software open at shut down?  This indicates that COGZ was running in the background (you should see this in Windows Task Manager).  When Windows shuts down, it closes each running program and when the program that is preventing COGZ Maintenance Software from displaying is closed, COGZ is then free to open.
    • Additional considerations:

      • Have there been any previous problems when opening the program from this machine?
      • Did this issue just start recently?  If so, has something changed on your machine?
      • Does this happen every time you attempt to open the program?
      • Is this happening on all machines running the program?
