Preventive Maintenance - Software and Strategies Table of ContentsPreventive Maintenance Automated DiagnosticsIntegration with the Plant FloorNow we come to Automated Maintenance Diagnostics. This is where we want to integrate the Control Systems with Automated Diagnostics to Lower Trouble Shooting Time. By replacing traditional trouble shooting with automated trouble shooting we can increase maintenance productivity.
While these men are trying to diagnose the problem the downtime is accumulating.
A comprehensive system should monitor your entire production facility. We are talking about using a computer to monitor the PLC controlled equipment. This computer would use a SCADA software (SCADA is short for supervisory control and data acquisition) to communicate with the machine’s PLC and read the diagnostic information in its program. That is, provided the controls manufacturer has written the diagnostics into the program.
Shown here is a system called Pro-MACS that when an alarm occurs, a message appears at the bottom of the screen. The system announces, over the P.A., exactly what the problem is. The mechanic can zoom in to see a real picture of the machine and see exactly where the problem lies. It was said that the voice annunciation was sufficient enough for the maintenance personnel to drastically reduce their diagnostic time.
Obtaining access to diagnostic information, which could be amended by the maintenance personnel, provided quick troubleshooting and repair.
There were useful reporting tools, which produced easy to read Production, Downtime and Failure Reports. This way the mechanic can get a precise answer without sifting through overwhelming data.
Above production line efficiency report graphing, which makes analyzing production numbers related to specific shifts or time periods less time consuming. Below the report query screen allows the operator to request any time period, group of machines or a specific machine to perform a report for. Therefore, most reports become brief and to the point.
Above is a downtime report, which also distinguishes the downtime due to Emergency Stops. It should be noted that Emergency Stops are not a machine failure but an operational failure.
Above, the failure report the date and time of the failure or stoppage but also the duration. This report module also has the feature of showing the RESTART time. This will show the responsiveness of the operators on the line. Preventive Maintenance - Software and Strategies Table of Contents Preventive Maintenance - Preventive Maintenance Software |
